Türkiye’s Mediation Efforts Between Ethiopia and Somalia to Boost Trade Between the Two Nations
October 24, 2025The Government of Sudan has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the country, while criticizing the recent conclusions of the European Union Council on Sudan as reflecting an “incomplete understanding” of the realities on the ground.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the government said its efforts to engage with regional and international partners should not be mistaken for acceptance of any actor that disrespects Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, or the dignity of its people. The statement emphasized that Khartoum “does not equate itself with a terrorist militia in any political process,” referring to the Al-Daglo militia, which the government accused of targeting civilians and national assets.
“The Government of Sudan remains committed to restoring the dignity, rights, and property of its people from the Al-Daglo militia,” the statement read.
The government further criticized the EU Council’s report for failing to address the ongoing siege of Al-Fashir and the militia’s use of starvation, forced displacement, and violence — including against women, children, and the elderly — as weapons of war. Sudan urged the European Union to support the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2736 (2024), instead of calling for ceasefires that allow the militia to regroup.
According to the Ministry, the EU Council also overlooked the Sudanese government’s “sustained efforts” to facilitate humanitarian aid, remove bureaucratic obstacles for relief organizations, and cooperate with international partners — efforts that have been recognized globally.
The government warned that double standards and the granting of political legitimacy to groups responsible for grave violations could undermine the peace process and embolden the militia to reposition itself without accountability.
At the same time, Khartoum highlighted the positions of regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and the African Union, which have both condemned the militia’s violations and expressed full support for the Sudanese government’s efforts to restore stability and security.
While noting its appreciation for the EU Council’s reaffirmation of Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the government reiterated its willingness to pursue a constructive and principled dialogue with the European Union based on mutual respect.
“The protection of the Sudanese people, the consolidation of peace and stability, and the restoration of legitimate rights and national assets remain the paramount priorities of the Government of Sudan,” the statement concluded.
