UAE Emerges as One of the World’s Most Interventionist Powers
November 17, 2025Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, has announced a major breakthrough for the country’s maritime sector: the Port of Mogadishu will begin full 24-hour operations starting tonight, offering uninterrupted, round-the-clock services for the first time.
According to Minister Nur, this historic development has been made possible by significantly strengthened security measures in the capital, paving the way for smoother, safer, and more efficient port activity.
The shift to 24/7 operations is expected to reduce congestion, minimize vessel delays, and substantially boost the port’s competitiveness. Officials say the change will directly enhance government revenue and improve the overall efficiency of trade. For Somali traders, the decision marks a highly welcomed improvement that will make port services more reliable and streamline business operations nationwide.
Minister Nur emphasized that this initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader program to modernize and expand the Port of Mogadishu—alongside other ports across the country—in alignment with the vision of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Dan-Qaran Government led by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
He expressed deep gratitude to the Port Director, Alport Mogadishu, Somali security agencies, and all government departments whose collaboration and commitment made this milestone possible.
This marks a significant step forward for Somalia’s maritime infrastructure and a new chapter in the nation’s economic development.
