October 17, 2025The Somali Petroleum Authority (SPA) and the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) have taken a major step toward oil drilling in Somalia after successfully concluding a three-day Technical Committee Meeting in Mogadishu.
The meeting, held from October 10–12, 2025, reviewed the progress of ongoing exploration activities, finalized seismic data, and laid the groundwork for the next stage — drilling operations.
“We’ve completed the seismic stage and are preparing to drill,” said Eng. Abdulqadir Aden, signaling the start of a new and promising phase in Somalia’s upstream petroleum exploration.
According to officials, the discussions strengthened the partnership between SPA and TPAO, emphasizing safety, transparency, and sustainable resource development. The collaboration reflects Somalia’s growing commitment to responsibly developing its vast petroleum potential and attracting international investment.
The completion of the seismic survey marks one of the most significant achievements in Somalia’s energy sector in recent years. With drilling preparations underway, the partnership between Somalia and Türkiye continues to pave the way for a new chapter of economic growth, energy independence, and regional cooperation.
