For the first time in decades, Mogadishu hosted a public art event, marking a significant cultural milestone for the Somali capital. Sponsored by the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu, the “Paint and Coffee Night” took place at the Belmonde Hotel Restaurant and drew a crowd of nearly 1,000 participants.
More than just an artistic gathering, the event symbolized a renewed cultural spirit in the heart of the city. Held in an open, public space, it brought together people from all walks of life to enjoy painting, coffee, and a shared sense of community.
Organizers described the event as a first step toward revitalizing the artistic and public life of Somalia. The Turkish Embassy expressed its satisfaction in supporting initiatives that strengthen cultural ties and friendship between Turkey and the Somali people.
Both professional and amateur artists took part, filling canvases with color and emotion while live music added to the ambiance. Through paint and storytelling, the evening conveyed messages of peace, unity, and hope for Somalia’s future.
Attendees voiced strong support for more cultural events like this, saying they envision a Mogadishu that reclaims its place as a vibrant center of art and creativity.
