Somalia Strengthens Border Security with Advanced Technology to Overcome US Visa Restrictions
July 7, 2025Mogadishu, July 3, 2025 — Somali Prime Minister H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre today presided over a graduation ceremony in Mogadishu for new officers, deputy officers, and soldiers of the elite Gorgor Commandos, trained through extensive programs in Turkey and at the TurkSom Academy.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Hamza reaffirmed his government’s commitment to building a professional, well-trained national army as the foundation of a stable Somali state. He stressed that defending and liberating the country remains the military’s top priority and reminded soldiers of the honor and responsibility they carry.
“The Somali National Army is the backbone of our strong, self-reliant state. You must take up this responsibility, prepare to free our nation from enemies, and restore the dignity and unity of the Somali people,” he declared.
He highlighted the crucial role these newly graduated units will play in enhancing national security and fighting extremist groups undermining Somalia’s peace and sovereignty.
Prime Minister Hamza expressed heartfelt thanks to Turkey’s people and government for their unwavering support in training and equipping Somalia’s forces, calling their assistance vital for Somalia’s stability and future.
