Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Closes Landmark National Consultative Forum with Strong Push for Direct Elections and Unity
June 20, 2025As the recent conflict between Iran and Israel escalates, posing serious risks to foreign nationals in the region, Türkiye has taken a quiet but impactful step. The evacuation of Somali citizens stranded in Iran has begun with the support of Turkish authorities.
According to sources, Somali students, workers, and families who were unable to leave Iran due to travel restrictions are now being safely escorted out of the country thanks to Türkiye’s diplomatic efforts. The evacuations are reportedly taking place in stages, via third countries and under controlled conditions.
Turkish officials are said to be managing the process with both humanitarian and diplomatic sensitivity, providing assistance with health, shelter, and travel arrangements for the evacuees.
This development is seen as yet another example of the enduring brotherhood between Türkiye and Somalia, now expressed through humanitarian action on the ground. The evacuations have resonated strongly in Somali public opinion, with many calling it “a quiet but powerful gesture of solidarity.”
Hornpulse will continue to monitor and report on further developments in the evacuation process.
