EXCLUSIVE: Economic Crisis and Repression Fuel Opposition in Ethiopia
June 10, 2025The Somali Ministry of Defense has released video footage of a precision missile strike near Ceelhareeri in the Moqokori district of Hiraan region, in which senior Al-Shabaab commander Nuur Abdi Roble, also known as Nuunuule, was neutralized.
The operation, carried out in coordination with the Somali National Army (SNA) and international partners, prominently featured Turkish-made TB2 and Akıncı drones, which delivered the strike with pinpoint accuracy.
Nuunuule was a high-ranking Al-Shabaab militant believed to have orchestrated major attacks, including the deadly 2023 assault on government forces in Awsweyne. His death marks a major blow to the group’s command structure.
Defense officials hailed the strike as a significant success in Somalia’s ongoing counterterrorism campaign, noting that the use of advanced Turkish drone technology has dramatically enhanced the effectiveness of operations against Al-Shabaab.
