June 7, 2025Port Sudan, June 7, 2025 – Sudan’s newly appointed Prime Minister Kamil Idris held his first meeting with a foreign envoy since taking office, receiving Turkish Ambassador to Khartoum, Fatih Yıldız, at his working office in Port Sudan.
According to the Sudanese official news agency SUNA, the meeting marked Prime Minister Idris’s first diplomatic engagement since his appointment on May 31.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency following the meeting, Ambassador Yıldız conveyed the best wishes and congratulations of the Turkish leadership, government, and people to Prime Minister Idris, expressing hope for his success during this exceptional and challenging period in Sudan’s history.
Yıldız reaffirmed Turkey’s continued support for the Sudanese people, noting that Ankara remains committed to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in the country. “As before, Turkey will stand by Sudan and its people during Prime Minister Idris’s tenure,” he emphasized.
Highlighting the broader scope of bilateral ties, Yıldız stated that efforts are ongoing to maintain momentum in Turkish-Sudanese relations, which had seen substantial progress prior to the outbreak of conflict. He expressed hope to swiftly begin working with members of the incoming Sudanese government on mutually beneficial projects.
Ambassador Yıldız also briefed Prime Minister Idris on several Turkish initiatives aimed at reconnecting Port Sudan with the outside world. These include:
- The planned resumption of Turkish Airlines flights in August,
- The entry of Ziraat Participation Bank into the Sudanese market,
- Ongoing humanitarian and development work by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) since January.
Yıldız stressed the readiness of Turkish investors and businesspeople to return to Sudan and resume operations once conditions stabilize.
Prime Minister Idris reportedly welcomed these developments and voiced a desire to cooperate with Turkey in restoring essential public services across Sudan.
Ambassador Yıldız concluded by expressing Turkey’s interest in convening a Joint Economic Commission meeting in partnership with the new Sudanese government under Prime Minister Idris’s leadership.
