Sudan: 14 members of the same family killed in a bombing, according to rescue workers
May 10, 2025Saturday, May 10, 2025 — The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally submitted an official complaint to the Federal Government of Somalia, accusing the Puntland administration of indirectly aiding the ongoing civil war in Sudan.
In a diplomatic note addressed to the Somali government, Sudan cited both local and international intelligence sources, alleging that Puntland is providing strategic and logistical support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a militia widely accused of human rights abuses and war crimes inside Sudan.
The letter specifically claims that Bosaso Airport has become a key hub for RSF-related military flights and supply shipments, raising concerns that such operations may be facilitated by foreign actors, notably the United Arab Emirates.
Sudan also expressed serious concern over recent remarks made by Puntland’s Minister of Information, Mahmoud Caydiid Diriir, who publicly denied any Puntland involvement in Sudan’s conflict. Khartoum described his statement as misleading and an attempt to cover up Puntland’s role in supporting the RSF.
In addition, the Sudanese government highlighted that Minister Caydiid holds British citizenship, prompting Sudan’s embassy in London to officially contact the UK government regarding the potential diplomatic implications of his statements.
While reaffirming its strong diplomatic and fraternal ties with the Somali people and the Federal Government of Somalia, Sudan warned that Puntland’s alleged support for the RSF poses a serious threat to Sudan’s national security and risks damaging bilateral relations.
Sudan firmly stated it would not tolerate political, military, or logistical assistance being provided to the RSF or its leadership, accusing the militia of being responsible for mass civilian deaths and widespread instability across Sudan.
Finally, Sudan called on the Somali Federal Government to immediately investigate the matter, take corrective action, and reaffirm its commitment to safeguarding Sudan’s sovereignty and regional peace.
