April 19, 2025Somali MP Moalimuu Condemns Faisal Ali Warabe for Comments Appearing to Legitimize Al-Shabaab

Hon. Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu, a member of Somalia’s 11th Federal Parliament and a survivor of five separate Al-Shabaab suicide bombings, has issued a powerful statement condemning recent social media remarks made by Somali politician Faisal Ali Warabe. In his statement, Moalimuu expressed outrage over Warabe’s portrayal of Al-Shabaab as a political force allegedly advised by the Taliban.
“This is not only dangerous—it is deeply offensive,” said Moalimuu. “Al-Shabaab is a terrorist organization responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent Somalis.”
Moalimuu, who previously served as the Spokesperson of the Federal Government and as a Senior Media Adviser to the Prime Minister, highlighted Warabe’s misuse of his global mobility, enabled by his Finnish passport, to platform narratives that risk legitimizing extremist violence.
“Faisal has already lost a son who joined ISIS and died for that cause. He understands the devastating consequences of radicalization. He should know better,” Moalimuu added, calling for accountability and demanding respect for the victims of terrorism.
He urged Finnish and European Union authorities—including the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (@Ulkoministerio), Finnish Police (@SuomenPoliisi), Finland’s Somali community organizations (@FinlandinSom), Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (@MofaSomalia), Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Fiqi (@AhmedFiqi), and the EU External Action Service (@eu_eeas)—to take immediate action.
“We must not allow words that normalize or promote terrorism to go unchecked. This issue cannot end as a social media debate. Somalia will not be defined by terror. We demand justice, accountability, and dignity,” Moalimuu concluded.
His comments have drawn support from civil society, security analysts, and fellow lawmakers, many of whom view his call as a necessary stand against extremist sympathies masquerading as political commentary.
