Somali President Responds to Opposition Demands with National Dialogue on Counterterrorism
March 31, 2025Mogadishu, Somalia – Somali forces, supported by International Partners drones reportedly carried out a large-scale operation in the Middle Shabelle region last night, delivering a significant blow to the Al-Shabaab terrorist group. According to sources from Villa Somalia speaking to HornPulse, the drone strikes resulted in the elimination of at least 43 Al-Shabaab fighters.
Somali sources claim that Turkish-made Akıncı drones bombarded key Al-Shabaab positions throughout the night, while Bayraktar TB2 drones played a critical role during the day by tracking militants attempting to evade detection.
Intelligence reports indicate that the strike occurred as Al-Shabaab militants were leaving a high-level meeting. The precise targeting was made possible through intelligence shared by Somalia’s international partners, who played a vital role in coordinating the operation.
Somali sources assert that the drones responsible for the strike were Akıncı models, although official confirmation has yet to be provided.
“Al-Shabaab fighters were disguising themselves in women’s clothing to avoid being spotted, but their tactics were exposed by National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) operatives embedded within the group,” a senior official from Villa Somalia revealed.
This coordinated assault marks one of the most destructive strikes against Al-Shabaab in recent months, as the Somali government intensifies its campaign to dismantle the terrorist network.
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has repeatedly emphasized his administration’s commitment to eradicating Al-Shabaab and restoring peace to the region. The successful operation highlights the increasing effectiveness of joint military cooperation between Somalia and its international partners.
As the offensive continues, officials vow to maintain pressure on Al-Shabaab strongholds while leveraging intelligence from within the group to preempt future threats.
