March 17, 2025The Somali National Army (SNA), in collaboration with local forces, has achieved significant victories against the Khawarij insurgents across the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions, dealing a severe blow to the terrorist group’s operations.
In Laba-garas, joint forces successfully dismantled key terrorist hideouts, eliminating several senior leaders and militants. The operation also saw the destruction of fortified defensive positions that the militants had used as strongholds.
In Sumadaale, the SNA intercepted and neutralized a potential suicide attack. Forces were able to identify and obliterate vehicles laden with explosives before they reached their intended targets, preventing potential mass casualties and destruction.
Meanwhile, in Awdheegle, Khawarij militants launched a desperate offensive using suicide bomb-laden vehicles. However, they were met with overwhelming force from the SNA and local fighters. The attackers suffered severe casualties, and security operations are ongoing to pursue and eliminate any remaining fugitives from the battle.
These successful operations underscore the unwavering commitment of the Somali government and its security apparatus to ensuring the safety and stability of the nation. Authorities reaffirmed their dedication to continuing the fight against terrorism until the threat is fully eradicated.
The Ministry of Defense commended the bravery and professionalism of the troops and called on local communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces to prevent future attacks.
These developments mark a significant step towards peace and security in Somalia, particularly in regions long affected by militant insurgencies.
