Eritrea Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Peace Amid Accusations
March 13, 2025The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as persistent attempts to dismantle the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF) and undermine Tigray’s security framework. The TPLF has labeled these efforts as “national treason” and warned of the consequences for Tigray’s survival and stability.
According to the TPLF, the TDF was established as a last line of defense against what it describes as genocidal aggression from the Ethiopian government and its allies. The statement emphasized the sacrifices made by the TDF in safeguarding Tigray, describing the forces as integral to the region’s survival and peace.
The TPLF accused certain groups, including elements within the Tigray Interim Administration (TIA), of attempting to sabotage and defame the TDF through coordinated attacks, smear campaigns, and unconstitutional dismissals of TDF leadership. The TPLF contends that such actions compromise Tigray’s security and violate the terms of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA).
“The TDF’s leadership cannot be dismissed based on individual whims,” the statement read, asserting that the TDF was formed as a necessity to protect Tigray’s existence. The TPLF also claimed that efforts to suspend TDF leaders by the TIA are invalid and pose significant risks to Tigray’s stability.
Highlighting the broader implications, the TPLF warned that sidelining the TDF threatens to erode democratic principles, constitutional order, and peace efforts in the region. The statement concluded by urging accountability and reaffirming the TDF’s role as a vital security pillar for Tigray.
The TPLF’s remarks come amid growing tensions within Tigray’s political landscape, underscoring the fragile nature of the post-conflict environment and the challenges facing regional stability.
