March 14, 2025Eritrea’s Minister of Information, Yemane G. Meskel, has firmly rejected recent accusations concerning Eritrean troop presence in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, describing them as “utterly false” and a ploy to incite conflict.
In a statement shared on social media, Meskel criticized what he termed “Conflict Entrepreneurs” for promoting misleading narratives that undermine Eritrea’s image and regional stability. He emphasized Eritrea’s unwavering commitment to peace, grounded in international law and the broader interests of the Horn of Africa.
Meskel clarified that Eritrean forces are stationed strictly within the nation’s sovereign territories and have no involvement in Ethiopia’s internal affairs, including the Pretoria Peace Agreement. He further stated that Eritrea has no interest in escalating internal conflicts within Ethiopia’s Tigray region and condemned any inflammatory rhetoric that could destabilize the region.
Highlighting the dangers of ethnic and religious polarization, Meskel stressed the need for accurate discourse and mutual cooperation to avert unnecessary tensions, particularly regarding issues around the Red Sea.
The statement comes amid ongoing regional dynamics, with Eritrea calling for peace and respect for sovereignty to ensure long-term stability in the Horn of Africa.
