Ankara, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated to Reuters that Türkiye aims to sign a license for oil and gas exploration in Somalia’s land blocks on March 1. This move will expand Türkiye’s energy activities in the East African country.

Currently, Türkiye is conducting offshore oil exploration in three maritime blocks in Somalia using the Oruç Reis seismic research vessel. With the new agreement, Türkiye will also begin onshore oil exploration starting in March.

The agreement is part of an ongoing energy partnership between Türkiye and Somalia, strengthening Ankara’s presence in the region’s oil and gas sector.
