Somalia: At Least 13 Soldiers Killed in Al-Shabaab Attack
February 20, 2025Port Sudan, – Malik Agar Eyre, the Vice Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, has issued a strongly worded open letter to Kenyan President William Ruto, accusing him of violating African Union (AU) principles and interfering in Sudan’s internal affairs.
The letter, which references a Swahili proverb, criticizes Ruto for allegedly advocating for foreign intervention in Sudan and backing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a group accused of severe human rights violations.
Agar condemns Ruto’s actions during the June 2023 IGAD summit, where he allegedly promoted a roadmap that allowed foreign forces to intervene in Sudan. He also criticizes Ruto for hosting RSF supporters in Nairobi on February 18, 2025, in what he describes as an attempt to establish a parallel government.
The letter further argues that Kenya should focus on its internal challenges, such as youth unemployment and governance transparency, instead of meddling in Sudanese affairs. Agar urges for Sudan’s sovereignty to be respected and calls on the AU to take action against external interference.
The statement underscores Sudan’s commitment to resolving its own problems without foreign intervention, reaffirming the AU’s principle of “African solutions for African problems.”
This letter adds to the ongoing tensions between Sudan and Kenya, highlighting the regional divisions surrounding the Sudanese conflict.
