Agreement Between the Azerbaijan and the Somalia on Defense and Defense Industry Cooperation
February 12, 2025Baku, — In a landmark diplomatic event, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Somalia have solidified their growing bilateral relations through the signing of several strategic agreements. The ceremony, attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmud, marked a significant step forward in cooperation across critical sectors, including public services, renewable energy, education, and defense.
One of the key agreements is the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Provision of Public Services. This agreement, exchanged between Ulvi Mehdiyev, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations, and Abdihakim Mohamed Yusuf, Head of the Somali Presidential Administration, aims to enhance public service delivery and foster innovation in governance.
In the field of renewable energy, the two nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Green Energy. The agreement, signed by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, and Somalia’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Abdullahi Bidham Warsame, underscores their shared commitment to sustainable development and combating climate change through the promotion of green energy resources.
Education also took center stage with the signing of an Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Education. Facilitated by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, and Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Moalim Figi, this agreement aims to strengthen educational exchanges, cultural understanding, and academic collaboration between the two nations.
Additionally, a significant step was taken in the realm of security with the signing of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Fields of Defense and Defense Industry. Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov and Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur formalized the agreement, which paves the way for enhanced defense cooperation and mutual security assurances, potentially leading to joint military projects in the future.
These agreements reflect a strong commitment by both Azerbaijan and Somalia to deepen diplomatic ties and explore mutual opportunities for growth and collaboration. The partnerships not only strengthen bilateral relations but also set the stage for future joint initiatives in public services, energy, education, and defense.
