February 10, 2025Istanbul – Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Mr. Dahir Shire Mohamed, and his delegation met with Türkiye’s Energy Minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, in Istanbul to discuss bilateral cooperation in energy and mining sectors.
During the meeting, it was announced that the Oruç Reis vessel has completed 50% of the seismic surveys in Somali waters. The ministers reviewed the next steps in the exploration activities and explored potential new collaborations in onshore areas. Additionally, both parties agreed to initiate a new cooperation process in the mining sector.
Minister Bayraktar emphasized the commitment to enhancing the partnership in energy and mining, stating, “We will continue our efforts to elevate our cooperation in energy and mining to a level befitting the close and sincere relations between our two countries.”
This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening the ties between Somalia and Türkiye, with a focus on mutual benefits in the energy and mining industries. The collaboration is expected to contribute to the economic development of both nations and foster long-term partnerships.
