February 7, 2025President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan presented plaques to institutions, organizations, and private sector representatives who demonstrated extraordinary solidarity, generosity, and sacrifice during the devastating earthquake in Turkey, described as the “disaster of the century.” The plaques featured the symbol of the Anatolian carnation and included the inscription: “The exemplary solidarity, generosity, and sacrifices you displayed during the disaster of the century, which will never be erased from our memories, will always be remembered and serve as an inspiration to our children, the guarantors of our future.”
As part of this initiative, representatives of countries that extended a helping hand to Turkey after the earthquake were also awarded. Somalia was honored with this special award alongside Qatar, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Libya. Somalia’s recognition highlighted the strong brotherly ties between the two nations.
Somalia’s receipt of this award is seen as a reflection of the historical and strategic relations between the two countries, while also underscoring Turkey’s growing influence on the international stage.
