February 4, 2025Nairobi, Kenya – Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi will attend a special joint summit on the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Saturday. The summit, organized by the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), will be held in Dar es Salaam, the economic capital of Tanzania, the Kenyan presidency announced on Monday.
The summit comes amidst escalating tensions between Kinshasa and Kigali, following the seizure of Goma, a major city in eastern DRC, by the M23 rebel group and its alleged support from Rwandan forces. The situation in the region continues to deteriorate as the M23 and its allies advance further.
Kenya, which currently holds the EAC presidency, is spearheading efforts to address the ongoing crisis, which has displaced thousands and heightened regional instability.
