February 5, 2025Addis Ababa, – Ethiopia and Israel have solidified their collaboration in the water and energy sectors by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering closer ties and joint initiatives.
The agreement was formalized in Addis Ababa by Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Engineer Habtamu Ittefa, and Israel’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Eli Cohen. The signing ceremony highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to advancing sustainable development and technological innovation in these critical areas.
During the event, Minister Habtamu Ittefa outlined key areas of potential cooperation, including groundwater exploration and extraction, advanced wastewater treatment technologies, and the development of renewable energy projects. He emphasized the importance of leveraging Israeli expertise to implement solar power generation initiatives, particularly in Ethiopia’s rural regions, to enhance energy access and drive economic growth.
Israeli Minister Eli Cohen expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that the agreement opens avenues for Israeli institutions to contribute to capacity building, knowledge transfer, and the development of water and energy infrastructure in Ethiopia. He underscored Israel’s readiness to share its technological advancements and experience to achieve tangible results in these sectors.
The MoU marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Israel, with both countries recognizing the mutual benefits of collaboration in addressing water and energy challenges.
