February 1, 2025Mogadishu, Somalia – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre attended the graduation ceremony of newly trained units of the Gorgor Commandos, an elite force within the Somali National Army, held in Mogadishu on Saturday. The event showcased the commandos’ high-level skills and readiness, highlighted by impressive military drills and displays.
In his address, the Prime Minister commended the Gorgor Commandos as a symbol of Somalia’s military progress and a cornerstone in securing the nation’s borders across land, sea, and air. He emphasized their pivotal role in combating Khawarij (extremist groups) and ensuring Somalia’s security, particularly as the African Union forces prepare to withdraw from the country.
PM Hamza reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the Somali Armed Forces, stating that the Gorgor Commandos are expected to lead efforts in defending Somalia’s sovereignty and maintaining national stability.
“The Gorgor Commandos represent the future of Somalia’s defense capabilities,” said the Prime Minister. “Their dedication and advanced training are critical to safeguarding our nation and achieving lasting peace.”
The ceremony underscored the Somali government’s focus on building a robust and self-reliant military force capable of addressing both current and future security challenges.
