January 28, 2025Abu Dhabi, UAE – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has invited three key leaders from Somaliland, including two former presidents, to engage in high-level talks aimed at shaping the region’s future.
In an important diplomatic move, former Somaliland Presidents Muse Bihi and Rayaale Kaahin will join current President Abdirahman Irro in Abu Dhabi for crucial discussions. According to a senior source, the primary objective of the talks is to “build national consensus on the future course of Somaliland and the way forward.”
The UAE, which stands as the largest foreign investor in Somaliland, plays a significant role in the Horn of Africa region. Despite Somaliland’s declaration of independence in 1991, it remains unrecognized by the international community, making the UAE’s influence particularly notable.
The outcome of these talks could have far-reaching implications for Somaliland’s political trajectory and its relationship with the UAE, which has invested heavily in key sectors such as infrastructure and port management in the breakaway region.
