January 28, 2025The second congress of Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party (PP), scheduled for early 2025, is poised to make pivotal decisions and set strategic directions to bolster the party’s influence and advance the nation’s development goals, according to Adem Farah, Deputy Prime Minister and Vice President of the party, who also heads the Democracy System Building Coordination Center.
As Africa’s largest political party, the PP will convene its second congress from January 31 to February 2, 2025, in Addis Ababa, the continent’s political and diplomatic hub. Adem confirmed to the media that all preparations for the event have been completed, and the congress will take place at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum.
The Vice President highlighted that the Prosperity Party, boasting over 15.7 million members, has achieved notable success by prioritizing inclusivity, balance, and the integration of indigenous ideas. He revealed that more than 1,700 participants, including senior, mid-level, and grassroots party officials, invited guests, community representatives, rival political parties, and delegates from 15 international sister parties, will attend the congress.
Adem emphasized that the congress is expected to pass critical resolutions and strategic plans aimed at strengthening the party’s position and advancing Ethiopia’s development agenda. Key decisions will focus on reinforcing government strategies and policies to ensure sustainable development, poverty reduction, job creation, and economic growth, all designed to benefit the nation as a whole.
He expressed confidence that the outcomes of the congress will play a vital role in addressing national challenges and driving the country’s socioeconomic and political transformation. Adem reiterated the party’s commitment to Ethiopia’s comprehensive development, noting significant achievements in areas such as the economy, tourism, and diplomacy. The PP aims to position Ethiopia as a beacon of prosperity in Africa, with a strong emphasis on delivering tangible results.
Beyond economic progress over the past five years, the party has also prioritized improving education quality and implementing successful health initiatives, further demonstrating its dedication to national development and enhancing Ethiopia’s global reputation.
