January 22, 2025President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia, was honored with the African Presidential Leadership Award by Africa House during a ceremony held in Davos, Switzerland, today. This prestigious recognition celebrates President Mohamud’s exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing state-building efforts in Somalia.
Under President Mohamud’s leadership, Somalia has reached historic milestones, including the lifting of the decades-long arms embargo, the completion of the debt relief process, and the country’s accession to the East African Community (EAC). His efforts have also played a key role in promoting regional stability and fostering stronger collaboration with Somalia’s international partners.
In his acceptance speech, President Mohamud expressed his deep gratitude for the award, acknowledging the resilience and determination of the Somali people. “This award is a tribute to the resilience, courage, and determination of the Somali people. It is their unwavering spirit that fuels our mission to rebuild our nation and contribute to the progress of our great continent, Africa,” he said. “I am deeply humbled and honored to receive this recognition, which I dedicate to the Somali people. Together, we are proving that hope and hard work can turn challenges into opportunities.”
The president reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Somalia’s role in the region and emphasized the importance of African solidarity in addressing the continent’s collective challenges. He urged fellow African leaders to continue working towards unity, peace, and sustainable development across the continent.
